Earned Income Tax Credit Helping Taxpayers

Earned Income Exclusion, Income Taxes, Stimulus Plans, Tax Credits, Tax Returns, Taxpayers

For some, the stimulus can mean bigger tax returns. For example, the government changed the earned income tax credit so more people qualify for more money. Patricia Love didn’t make a lot of money last year, but she will get 2,100 dollars back on her tax return.

Patricia Love: “I was really happy to be able to get that much back.”

She’s getting that much because of the earned income tax credit, a program to help working people who can’t make ends meet. Since Love also works at Liberty Tax, she was fully aware of the credit and able to take advantage. That’s not always the case.

Patricia Love: “The IRS, every year, reports a good number of people who qualify for the credit but never file for it.”

Because of the stimulus, families with 3 or more kids can get more money back this year. To qualify with 3 kids, a two-parent household has to make less than $48,000. A single parent with 3 or more kids has to make less than $43,000. Smaller families have different qualifications.

Patricia Love: “These people need this money. They’re trying to raise a family on very little.”

Love is just waiting to get her check in the mail.

Patricia Love: “I’m a single mom, I need that money to make ends meet.”

And she knows it will help provide a better life for her family.
